Kuanos - Horse bust with a mane of crystals.
With Kuanos, Sophie Mattéi presents us with much more than a mere horse bust: she gives form to a primitive tension, between flesh and stone, between organic life and mineral structure. The horse, with its head inclined, ears lowered, and flaring nostrils, exudes a profound solemnity. Its mane, emerging in long crystalline formations, contrasts with the vibrant texture of the flesh. These geometric, abrupt growths, true crystallizations, suggest a metamorphosis: the breath of life frozen in eternal matter.
Kuanos embodies the duality of living matter — a dialogue between the sensitive naturalism of the animal world and a mineral abstraction reminiscent of raw matter. This formal tension imparts to the work a silent, magnetic energy, almost telluric in nature. The horse is no longer merely a subject; it becomes a symbol.
